LASU Student Nabbed With Fake Naira Notes
For being in possession of fake N500 notes, a student of the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Benjamin Omata, 19, has been arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for being in charge of fake naira notes.
The student was arrested in Igando where he went to change the fake money in a supermarket owned by Mrs. Bukola Olagbemi, near Chris bar Bus Stop, Igando, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
He was caught and handed over to the police.
According to Mrs. Olagbemi, the defendant came to her supermarket with a fake N500 note to purchase Ozone hair relaxer but she discovered the fake money and raised an alarm.
The accused was arrested and taken to his house where the police discovered more bundles of fake naira notes.
His offences are contrary to sections 249 and 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
The money was presented as exhibits in court.
When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. S.O. Solebo granted him bail and adjourned the matter till 16 May 2011.
He was remanded ordered to be remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa when he could not meet the conditions attached to the bail.
