Emir Calls For Peace

The Emir of Mubi in Adamawa, Alhaji Abubakar Isa, has called for calm after a deadly post-election violence in Mubi.

It will be recalled that five persons were killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed, following riots on Monday in Mubi and Michika Local Government Areas in Adamawa.

Irate youths protesting the outcome of the presidential election went on rampage, destroying residential homes of prominent PDP members, looting shops and burning INEC’s vehicles.

Abubakar, who went round major streets in Mubi calling for calm, urged youths to shun violence.

He warned against wanton destruction of lives and property, admonishing his subjects to live in peace with one another, irrespective of their political differences.

The Emir called for prayers for peace to reign in the country, adding that: “no meaningful development can be achieved without peace.”

Mr. Kevin Peter, the Chairman, Mubi North Local Council, said that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property in the area.

Peter urged families, who had earlier fled their homes to return, calling on the people to go about their normal businesses Although, normalcy had returned, most businesses had shut their doors to desperate customers.
