Lagos Assembly Now Part Of Society Of Clerks-At-The-Table
The Lagos State House of Assembly and its Borno State counterpart have been elected as members of a 13-man Steering Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region and Society of the Clerk-At-The-Table.
The election was decided at the just concluded first Conference of the Africa Region Society of Clerks-At-The-Table held in North Ridge, Accra, Ghana.
Mr. Emmanuel Aniyimadu of the Ghana Parliament was also elected the chairperson alongside Mr. Emmanuel Bawega from Uganda as his deputy.
The conference is based on the society’s constitution which establishes a steering committee elected to oversee the affairs of the association for three years.
According to the constitution of the society, membership shall be open to a National Parliament or Provincial/State/Territorial Legislature of a member-country of the Commonwealth on the continent of Africa represented by any official performing duties as Clerk-At-The-Table.
The constitution also stipulates that members of the steering committee shall be elected for a term of three years, provided that for the purpose of continuity, one-thirds of the members shall be replaced after two years and such shall be succeeded by members from the same sub-region or sub-branch as the case may be.
The next meeting of the association will come up in Kigali, Rwanda, between 10 and 18 June, 2011 with the theme Consolidating Growth and Development.
