The leadership of the African Liberation Party (ALP) in Lagos State has distanced itself from the purported declaration of Barrister Omolara Abike Kudjo-Alakija as the governorship candidate of the party in the 26 April gubernatorial election in the state.

ALP Chairman in Lagos State, Bishop Abiodun Olugbenro who addressed journalists at the party secretariat on Ibidun Street, Surulere, Lagos, described the self declaration made by Barrister Kudjo-Alakija as strange to the party, adding that it was an attempt by some people to destabilize the party.

“I want to confirm that we have only one candidate vying for governorship position in Lagos State in the person of Chief Tunde Fanimokun and Barrister Omolara Kudjo-Alakija as his running mate,” he clarified.

“We found it unbelievable when we heard today that the candidate of the party for the deputy governorship position was declaring herself as the governorship candidate of the party. As the chairman of the party, there is nothing of such and nothing of that nature could have happened without my knowledge.

“I have informed our National Chairman, Chief Okereke in Abuja and he told me that he was not aware of such development. I want to tell Lagosians that as far as the party is concerned, our candidate for the governorship position remains Chief Fanimokun while Barrister Kudjo-Alakija remains his running mate,” he stated.

Bishop Abiodun revealed that the party entered 61 candidates for all viable positions in the country among whom are 36 candidates in Lagos State for Tuesday’s election.

“What Barrister Omolara has done can be regarded as an anti-party activity and we will soon know those behind her action. We are well organized and firmly rooted in Lagos State. So, I am denouncing the rumour that Chief Fanimokun is no longer in the race.

“ALP is the party that will take over in Lagos State. Barrister Kudjo-Alakija has a dream but she should wait for her time. We know what is happening is not ordinary. Our preliminary investigations have revealed that there are some people behind her who want to destabilize the party because they are afraid of Fanimokun,” he added.
