The Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Mr. Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon, has condemned the post-election violence in some parts of the country, saying it is not good for our democracy.

Speaking with LG Circuit on telephone yesterday, Sulaimon said the resort to violence was not acceptable in any democracy where people had the freedom of choice.

He said there was no reason whatsoever for anyone to take to violence under any guise when there are legal avenues to handle post-election complaints.

According to the council chief popularly call Oris by his admirers, any form of political disturbance that involved attacks on public institutions including places of worship, was not healthy and a bad omen for the stability, unity and peaceful co-existence in the country.

Noting that the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable, he urged political leaders to call their supporters to order and refrain from the destruction of lives and property.

Meanwhile the Bariga council boss has commended Nigerians and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the peaceful conduct of the presidential election in the country on Saturday.

He, however, noted that the voting pattern witnessed in the South West on Saturday was not an endorsement of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and urged Lagosians to go out en masse on 26 April and follow the progressive trend and voting pattern during the National Assembly election.

According to him, “supporters of the PDP particularly in Lagos and the South West in general, should not see the voting pattern in Saturday’s election as an endorsement of the party,” adding, “the progressives will go back to the basics during the governorship and state assembly elections on 26 April.”
