UNIBEN Gets Digital Library

An ultra-modern digital library has been donated to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) by MTN Foundation under the supervision of its Universities Connect project.

The library is equipped with 128 networked computers, three servers, two high-capacity printers and one sound proof 100 KVA generator.

Chairman of MTN Foundation, Ambassador Hamzat Ahmadu, during the inauguration, said the library also has VSAT equipment and internet connectivity with a two-year subscription.

Ahmadu explained that the digital library is linked to world class digital libraries across the world with access to electronic books, journals and magazines in various subject areas.

“Universities Connect project is a world class e-library set up in tertiary institutions to ease research efforts by students and teachers alike. The project seeks to provide students and lecturers with access to vital information required to excel in their studies and provides youths with the platform to compete favourably with their counterparts in other parts of the world,” he said.

Ahmadu thanked its partner, Net Library Nigeria as well as the management of UNIBEN, for the support and cooperation the foundation has enjoyed since the commencement of the project.

Director of MTN Nigeria, Chief Victor Odili, reiterated MTN Nigeria’s commitment to advancing the nation’s frontiers in science and technology and arming the youth with requisite skills for future leadership.

He disclosed that MTN Foundation has spent almost N5 billion in implementing various life-changing social projects across the country.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Godwin Oshodin, commended the firm for the gesture and pledged to ensure maximum utilisation of the facility.
