Jakande Not New In Somolu Politics —Oris

Son of the second republic governor of Lagos State, Mr. Deji Jakande, cannot be described as new in the politics of Somolu area of Lagos State, the Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area, Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon a.k.a. Oris, has said.

Sulaimon made the assertion while drumming support for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in Tuesday’s House of Representatives election in Somolu.

Oris said it is an erroneous statement that the ACN candidate is new in Somolu politics.

The Bariga LCDA boss recalled that in 2007, the then Action Congress (AC) that metamorphosed into ACN, first gave its ticket to the Lagos State House of Assembly to Jakande but was later withdrawn from him and given to Rotimi Olowo, who now represents Somolu in the House.

Oris said that Jakande not only obeyed the party’s order but also supported its choice.

He also recounted the giant strides of the candidate’s father, Alhaji Lateef Jakande as governor of Lagos State between 1979 and 1983, adding that most of the administrative legacies he left behind were what guided the former governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his predecessor in office, Babatunde Raji Fashola, to excel.

Sulaimon therefore dismissed the claim in some quarters that Deji Jakande was imposed on the people of Somolu and urged ACN supporters to turn out en masse on Tuesday to vote for Deji and other candidates of the party.

During the 9 April National Assembly election nationwide, the exercise was postponed in Somolu, Ifako-Ijaye and Ikorodu because Labour Party’s logo was missing on the ballot paper.
