Lions Club Sinks Borehole At Ikeja Cantonement

Residents of Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, jubilated yesterday when the N.4m borehole sunk by the Lions Club International, Ikeja chapter, was commissioned.

Immediately the borehole was commissioned children and adults formed a long queue to fetch water from the facility.

The ceremony was performed by Senator Segun Bamigbetan Baju, Nigeria’s Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Cuba.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Lions International Chartered President, Mrs. Abiodun Oyinda Adegoke recollected her days as a barrack girl and how kids used to form a long queue to fetch water.

Adegoke said she felt bad when she saw a similar queue at the cantonment recently.

She stated that when she related her story to members of herv club, they agreed to sink the borehole.

The Lions Charter president commended the commandant of the cantonment who approved the club’s proposal to sink the borehole and gave them a site instantly.

She added that the Lions Club has bee in the forefront of providing water and other social amenities in their areas.

The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by members of Lions club International throughout Lagos State, representative of the Ikeja Cantonment, Lt. Col. Ginikawa Onwosu, Captain Andrew Malgwi and Captain V.C Nwokolo.
