The Kano Police Command says 109 suspects were arrested during Monday’s post-election violence in various parts of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Dan’Azumi Doma, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano that 74 of the suspects had been charged to court, while 23 were screened and 12 released.

He said the command had, in collaboration with the military, brought the situation under control.

“There is no trouble anywhere in the state right now; we are on top of the situation. I urge every citizen to go about his normal activities without any fear of violence again,” he added.

Doma also promised that Muslims attending Friday’s prayers in Mosques and Christians observing the Easter prayers in Churches would observe their respective rituals peacefully and be given adequate security.

He urged parents, religious leaders and traditional rulers in the state to monitor the activities of their children and wards to prevent them from taking the law into their hands.
