Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi says the electorate in the state will have the option to choose between good and bad leadership as they go to vote in the 26 April 2011 governorship election.
Governor Amaechi who stated this on Focus Nigeria, an AIT live programme, said he and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidates represent the way forward to sustainable development in the state.
The governor stressed that he is surprised that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, candidates picked form for the governorship position despite the magnitude of development ongoing in the state.
He said the only way the people of Rivers State can demonstrate their love for his administration is to make a statement with their votes.
“I picked form for the governorship election because of the massive support from Rivers people. The only way for them to show they love me is for Rivers people to punish them with their votes, and vote PDP massively.â€
He pledged that his administration would ensure prudent management of resources in his second term, stressing that the disciplined financial performance of his administration in the past has earned the government double rating from Fitch, an international rating agency.
On the National Assembly and Presidential Elections so far, Governor Amaechi said the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has performed creditably in the last two elections, adding that the elections have been adjudged by European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) observers as transparent.
Responding to his critics on the high cost of road construction in the state, the governor said all the opposition members want is for him to empower them, pointing that his administration is constructing roads based on professional advice, hence the cost will not naturally be like what they used to be in the past.
Governor Amaechi also dispelled the claim that his administration is witch-hunting the opposition, noting that the present government has created a peaceful opportunity for candidates from all political parties to canvas for votes freely.
