Jail Break in Yola Prison

A jail break has been reported by the News agency of Nigeria in Adamawa state, in Nigeria’s north east.

The jail break, in the state’s capital of Yola, was said to have been masterminded by armed robbers. According to the controller of the prisons, Andrew Barka, the number of the prisoners who escaped was yet to be ascertained.

Six of the convicts, who escaped have been re-arrested, Barka said. He gave the assurance that the ‘the situation is now under control’.

Jail beaking is common with some Nigerian prisons.. Last September, over 800 prisoners escaped from Bauchi prisons, after it was stormed by muslim militants., belonging to the Boko Haram sect.

In January this year, an attempt to break the Yola Prison by rioting convicts was averted after the officer on duty alerted policemen.
