Less than 24 hours to the governorship election, the Rivers State Police Command and other security agencies have been put on high alert as they claim to have uncovered plans by some unnamed persons to cause chaos and mayhem with the aim to disrupt the governorship and House of Assembly polls tomorrow.
The State Police command spokesman, Ben Ugwuegbulam, in Port Harcourt, said: “Some individuals have concluded plans to cause chaos and mayhem in tomorrow’s (Tuesday) governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
“We also had information that they have hired youths to be used as thugs to disrupt the election tomorrow. The Rivers State Police Command therefore advise parents and guardians to keep their children and wards under close watch. They should not allow their children to be used by some unscrupulous individuals as thugs.
“We also want to categorically warn those with the intention of fomenting trouble tomorrow to desist from such act or be ready to face the wrath of security agents. The full weight of the law would be brought against them.
“Besides the security reports with us, all security structures that were used during the past two elections are still present. We have not dismantled them.
“We are working hand in hand with our sister organisations. The Police Force and other security agencies are assiduously working to protect the integrity of the electoral process. We guarantee the security of any legitimate voter that would want to exercise his or her franchise during the election tomorrow.â€
