DSTV Basketball League: Union Bank Lead 'Em

With two games left in the 2011 DSTV Basketball Premier League season, Union Bank Basketball Club climbed to the top of the Atlantic conference log, beating Islanders 86-56 points in a their week-11 match.

 

The win over the former Nigeria four-peat champion, Islanders thus bring Union Bank basketball club record to 11-1 for 23 points to displace Royal Hoopers basketball club of Port Harcourt, who are now second, while Comets basketball club are placed third.

 

Union Bank’s next game is against Comets basketball club next weekend at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

 

They will complete the regular season against Police Baton basketball club on 8 May.

 

Action is expected to resume in the Savannah conference of the league soon after the post presidential election violence caused the League Board of the Federation to put the games in the conference on hold.

 

The League Board chairman and federation’s 1st-Vice President, Muktar Adamu Khaleh, said the federation is watching events as it affect participating teams in the Savannah conference. But he gave an assurance that as nomalcy returns to the troubled areas, the board will announce the continuation of league games in the conference to finish the regular season in good time.

 

Eight teams (four from each of the two conferences) are expected to make it to the final-8 playoffs, with Kano Pillars basketball club as defending champion.
