The Managing Director of a Lagos-based company, Mr. Ayodeji Adeniyi, 40 has been arraigned before an lkeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ogudu, Lagos on a one count charge of perjury.
Police prosecutor, ASP Eyo Owai, said Ayodeji Adeniyi was the defendant in suit number MIK/ 186/08 between one Doctor Joe Nosakare and his company, Parametric International Limited.
The charge added that the defendant who was on oath intentionally misled the court with false testimonies.
The police claimed that the offence is punishable under section 11 of the criminal Code Cap C 17 vol 11 Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2003.
P.M NEWS learnt that the defendant was a tenant in a house in Ogudu area but while on oath, he claimed that his landlord ejected him illegally when he changed the key to his apartment and also tampered with the electricity to his flat.
It was further learnt that his false declaration formed the basis of court’s decision in the case.
However, when the court visited the premises of the house, it was discovered that Ayodeji Adeniyi lied and has misled the court. .
But when the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
His counsel, Boniface Ohemu pleaded with the court to grant his client bail in the liberal term.
The presiding Magistrate, Bola Folarin Williams admitted the defendant to bail in sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum. She said one of the two sureties must be his blood relation and a property owner within the jurisdiction of the court.
Both sureties must be tax payers to Lagos state government, the court also ordered.
The case has been adjourned till 20 May, 2011 for mention.
