Governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party have won the elections in Kwara, Enugu and Rivers State. But incumbent PDP governor in Nasarawa, Aliyu Akwe Doma, lost to CPC candidate Tanko Al-Makura by a very close margin, 320,938 to 324,823.
In Kwara state, PDP candidate, Abdul-Fatal Ahmed defeated the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Dele Belgore. Ahmed scored 254,969 whle Belgore polled 152,580 votes.
In Rivers State, Governor Rotimi Amaechi was unable to match the votes recorded by President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential election. Amaechi’s votes, 1,178,568 were still bountiful enough to secure a second mandate. He beat his closest rival and the former usurper of his seat, Celestine Omehia, who scored 112,528 votes.
In Abia State, Governor Theodore Orji polled 641,158 votes to beat the APGA candidate, Reagan Ufomba, who got a distant mark of 49,421 votes.
Governor Ibrahim Geidam of the All Nigeria Peoples Party survived in Yobe state, to spend a second term in office. He beat the PDP candidate, Usman Albishir who got 195,449.
The PDP however held sway in Sokoto state, sweeping all the 30 state assembly seats. The Governorship election is scheduled for next year.
All the results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
