Titled Alero’s Symphony, the movie was premiered at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas of The Palms Shopping Mall in Lagos and it is set in contemporary Lagos, combining dramatic love story intertwined with the pulsating beats of the Nigerian hip hop genre.

Alero, the twin daughter of an affluent family, is a Law student who is expected to graduate with honours and thereafter join her father’s law chambers. However, her passion and heart is really set on being a singer, a desire she carefully hides from her parents.

During an Easter vacation, Alero comes across a lowly waiter/fisherman named Lovechild who also happens to be a talented musician.

Although from different sides of the divide in terms of class, education and social status, Alero and Lovechild found their common love for singing–a bond that binds them professionally at first and then romantically.

She finally confesses to her father that she has strong desires to pursue a career as a singer rather than as a lawyer and an indignant Dr. Coker gives his daughter an ultimatum; dump Lovechild, music ambition and focus on legal career or risk his wrath.

She decides, albeit reluctantly and for the sake of peace, to follow her father’s orders. But can Alero succeed in forsaking the cravings of her heart?

The new movie is novel and the first of its kind in Nigeria as a preview of it reveals an excellent production based on a well-written script and superb performances by the best from Nollywood.

The Marketing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Jacco Van Der Linden, said the movie is a must watch as it is a testimonial to the horde of talents in the country.

According to him, “I have no doubt that this movie is a welcome development in Nollywood. It was directed and produced by the best in the industry and has proved to be a good platform to introduce new talents into Nollywood.”

The first edition of AMBO took place in 2005 where Azizat Sadiq emerged winner and earned herself the lead role in Sitanda, an epic masterpiece which won five awards at the 2007 African Movie Academy Awards.

AMBO took place again in 2006 and produced OC Ukeje, who took up the lead role in the movie, White Waters, where he acted alongside A-list Nollywood actors such as Rita Dominic and Joke Silva.

The movie bagged four awards at the 2008 African Movie Academy Awards, winning OC Ukeje the Best Upcoming Actor for that year.

Cindy’s Note, the third movie from the AMBO platform, features the winner of that year’s edition, Bhaira McWizu, as the lead act. Its plot is built around the National Youth Service Corps scheme and its impact on the society and debuted in November 2008 with great reviews. Bhaira is already filming her next Nollywood project.
