Fifteen Area Boys, who were arrested on the eve of the House of Representatives election, while trying to foment trouble in parts of Victoria Island, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have been remanded in prison.
Mr Martins Owumu of the Lagos Island Magistrate Court in a case with charge No P/16/2011 brought before by the Commissioner of Police refused to grant bail to the 15 area boys on the ground that their offences were criminal and grievous
The charge sheet revealed that on April 7, this year, Segun Alao a.k.a Lighter, Rotimi Adeyemi, along Ahamdu Bello Way in Victoria Island brandished offensive weapons including cutlasses, iron bars, etc in order to commit felony to wit robbery, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under section 80 of the criminal code,cap 17 vol2, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
Other area boys also remanded in prison are Femi Obajulaiye, 28; Emmanuel Otega, 29; Cyril Dabu, 22; Iwuoha Kennedy, 25; Uche Dandi, 30; Jimah Azeez, 21; Muyideen Adeleye, 30; Johnson Daniel, 25; Adebowale Dayo, 36 and John Akanni, 21.
According to the magistrate, the 15 persons are to remain in prison till May 10, when their bail request would be considered.
