Housemaid Steals Judge’s Wrappers

The police at Onikan Police Division, Ikoyi, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arraigned a housemaid before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly breaking into the apartment of Justice Titilola Ojikutu Oshode and stealing properties worth thousands of naira.

 

The police alleged that the accused, Rebecca Owusu, broke into the Boys’ Quarters of the judge at 6A, Femi Okunu Road, Ikoyi, Lagos on 14 April, 2011 and stole 25 pieces of wrappers, five pieces of women headgear and one bathroom slippers, valued at N80,000.

 

The judge reported the theft to the police and the housemaid was arrested. She allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

 

She was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing, offences punishable under Sections 390(9) and 411 of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

 

Count two reads: “That you, Rebecca Owusu on the same date, time and place at the aforesaid magisterial district did unlawfully break into the Boys’ Quarters of the above named Justice Titilola Ojikutu Oshode with intent to commit felony, to wit, stealing after you were granted bail on the same date at Ikoyi Police Station.

 

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate C. J. Momoh admitted her on bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter till 11 May, 2011.

 

The accused was moved to the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, when she could not perfect the conditions attached to her bail.
