Lagos Assembly Clerk Wins Award

Just few months to his retirement, the Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Olatunji Taiwo, has been decorated with an award of “Pace Setter of Hope”

The presentation of the award which took place at the Assembly in Lagos was awarded by Members of the West Africa Student Union (WASU) as part of his contribution to the growth of youths in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, Olatunji expressed his appreciation for the award, saying that the award would further strengthen the relationship between the association and the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The clerk noted that he was not privileged to work in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, adding that the future of our country rests with the younger generation.

He said: “Those of us that are still alive must prepare our youths to show certain characteristics now”

He, however, implored them to be patriotic and eschew political thuggery and violence that would truncate the nation’s democratic system, urging them to always be good ambassadors of the country.

On plans for the youths in the state, Olatunji affirmed that the state House of Assembly will promulgate laws on youths, urging them to come with a private member bill for legislation by the members of the House of Assembly.

Earlier, the president of WASU, Mr. Fashina Olugbenga, said the award was an acknowledgement of the contribution of Olatunji to the Lagos State House of Assembly in particular and Nigeria in general.

The union, which consists of members from Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Benin Republic, was formed to liberate West African students.
