Man Jailed For Same Offence One Week After Freedom

A21-year-old man, Lajuwomi Biodun, has been sent back to Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, one week after he completed a 12-month jail term for the same crime.

Lajuwomi was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for conspiracy and felony with his friend, Alhmed Rafiu, 23, at Ejigbo Magistrate Court when they pleaded guilty to the charge against them.

He told the court presided over by Mrs. S.O. Solebo that he could not do any other business now since he has no money to set up a befitting business that will make up the amount he makes from stealing.

He pleaded with the court to have mercy on him because he was just released from prison on the same offence a week earlier.

Rafiu who was supposed to serve the same jail term escaped then.

They were arrested by the police at Igando one morning and when they were questioned, they claimed that they were retuning from a robbery operation while their accomplice escaped with their loot.

During the court proceeding, the prosecutor, Kunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendants are habitual criminals as Lajuwomi had confessed to have just been released from prison.

Shonibare told the court that if they were not punished properly, they would go back to committing crimes because they have not shown any remorse.

The court found them guilty as charged and sentenced them accordingly.
