Teenager Gets Bail For Theft

The presiding magistrate of the Cele Magistrate’s Court, Isolo, Lagos State Southwest Nigeria, Mrs. A.O. Awogboro, has granted an accused, Lekan Elijah,18, bail for an alleged theft.

 

Elijah was alleged to have stolen a Tiger generating set, a Nokia phone and a sum of N150,000, all worth 181,000. He was also alleged to have attempted to steal a keg of petrol by jumping over a 10 feet fence of the premises of a businessman, Eze Peter.

 

Police prosecutor, ASP Sam Idia said the three- count charge is punishable under Sections 507 and Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.38, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

 

Count three of the charge reads: “That you, Lekan Elijah on 22 March 2011 at 1, Obalodu Street, Ijeshatedo in the Lagos Magisterial District did steal a sum of N150,000 and a Nokia phone valued at N17,000 properties of one Mr. & Mrs. Komolafe. On the same date, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did enter into a building by jumping over a fence of about 10 ft of Eze Peter in an attempt to commit felony, to wit, stealing a keg of petrol, offences punishable under Sections 507 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.38, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the two sureties must be blood relations.

 

The case has been adjourned till 23 May, 2011. He was unable to fulfill the conditions attached to the bail and was remanded in prison
