Account Clerk Swindles Ritalori Hotel

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arraigned an account clerk with Rita Lori Hotel, for stealing N2,381,480 million belonging to the hotel.

The clerk, Balogun Saheed, 31, was alleged to have committed the offence between I January, 2010 and 8 April, 2011, at 5, Balogun Close, Off Babs Animashuan, Surulere.

The offence, according to the prosecuting police officer, Inspector Emmanuel Essien, is punishable under Section 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge reads: “That you, Balogun on 1 January, 2010 -8 April, 2011 at 5, Balogun Close, Off Babs Animashuan, Surulere, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N2,381,480 property of one Tesimi Lori Ogbebor and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was admitted on bail by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Olajunwon in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, she ordered, must show evidence of paying tax to the Lagos State government for three years; evidence of means of livelihood and must be residing within the magisterial district.

The case has been adjourneed till 7 July, 2011 for trial.
