Group Warns Ajegunle Youths Against Drugs
Youths in Ajegunle a prominent community in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, have been advised to desist from smoking hemp and taking other harmful drugs capable of destroying their future and render them useless in life.
The advice was given by a group, Ajeromi/Ifelodun Community Movement, during a sanitisation rally and awareness campaign against indiscriminate use of dangerous drugs, aimed at educating the youths of the area on the dangerous effect of hard drugs on the users.
Comrade Edward Ndukwe, coordinator of the movement, in a chat with Lagos Bulletin, said the increasing rate of indiscriminate consumption of hard drugs, which include marijuana, heroine, cocaine and other mind-bending substances, have been explained to be hazardous and contributing to several other social vices.
Ndukwe added that his organisation feels concerned for the future of numerous youths in the area and it is what made it to swing into action and resolve to offer meaningful contribution towards reducing the rampant indulgence to the acts.
The coordinator appealed to community leaders, leaders of religion, parents and people in government, to join hands with the movement and do something practical in saving the lives of the future leaders living in the area.
He also urged the local government in the area to set up a tripartite committee comprising the local government, police and community leaders for a quick action against the act.
Mrs. Stella Ngozi Nwoke, an Assistant Director, Drug Abuse Prevention Education, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, who spoke on the causes and negative effects of dangerous drugs, advised parents to always be vigilant about the type of friends that their children and wards keep, noting that most of those that find themselves smoking today started through the influence of peers or friends.
The assistant director also advised those who have got hooked to hard drugs under the pretence of covering their shame, to desist from it.
Mr. Abayomi Agbanna, a Divisional Police Officer in the area, promised the movement of his readiness to work with it and make its war against the use of elicit drugs successful.
During the rally, members of the movement walked through some streets of Ajegunle.
