Kerosene Explosion Victim Battles For Life
An apprentice tailor, Shakirat Adegbite, 22 is now battling for life at the emergency ward of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos, after suffering first degree burns from a kerosene explosion.
The explosion took place on Wednesday at her residence in Sango, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS learnt that Adegbite’s predicament started that fateful night after a power outage.
“I was inside the room with my friend that night. There was no light and I lit the lantern. I was trying to adjust it when I heard a loud bang. The next thing was that my wrapper was on fire. I struggled to put it off but before I could do that I was already burnt seriously. I was rushed to a nearby hospital in the area before I was referred to LUTH,†she narrated.
Adegbite told P.M.NEWS that her parents had exhausted their savings on her treatment, adding that doctors at the hospital said she would need over N2.5 million for an urgent operation to save her life.
“I’m an apprentice and I don’t have any money. My parents and some of my friends have been sustaining me, but now I need the assistance of the state government and kind-hearted Nigerians to undergo operation,†Adegbite pleaded.
“Financial help should be channelled to any branch of Intercontinental Bank Plc account number 0133110000765123. The name is Kehinde Adegbite Alao,” she added.
