Customs Road Blocks Remain Illegal — Dikko
Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, has reiterated that road blocks by Customs personnel remain illegal all over Nigeria.
Abdullahi stated this last recently at a meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Lagos Chapter at the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Ikeja Lagos, said that any Customs officer caught violating the regulations will have him/herself to blame.
He stated that the NCS is not a corrupt service, as widely alleged and does not deliberately delay cargo clearance because it had no reason whatsoever to do that.
“The more cargo we move, the more revenue we accrue. We, therefore, wish to remove the perception of the public that we are corrupt,†Abdullahi stated.
He noted that it is only those allegedly interested in defrauding and short-changing the government of its revenue that will always look for ways to cut corners.
While enjoining honest freight forwarders to come to the port to do their genuine business without fear or favour, Abdullahi urged members of the press to be objective and factual in their reportage.
