JACOFF Failed To Liaise With Members

The Joint Action Committee of Freight Forwarders (JACOFF) has been accused of relegating its members to the background.

At a recent event held in Lagos, an agent and member of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders (AREFF), Egwuatu Atuegwu, accused the leaders of the associations under JACOFF of failing to liaise properly with their members.

As regards the collection of the cargo clearance dues, Egwuatu noted that it would be foolish to entrust this huge task to the association’s chapter executives. He said that for successful collection of the dues, JACOFF chairmen cum national presidents of the various freight forwarding associations must strive to appeal to the sense of belonging of their members who would be making the payments.

In his words: “If we know we want to collect money, our presidents here should come to every terminal and address everybody and then identify those that work there every morning and give them the responsibility of collecting the money.

“Every agent wants to pay the money but they don`t know who to pay the money to and when they have problem with Customs they complain that they don`t have an association.”
