WRONGFUL SUBSTITUTION: Rep Member Drags INEC, PDP To Court

A member representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State in the House of Representatives, Hon Dave Salako has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission and Peoples Democratic Party before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over wrongful substitution of his name as the candidate of the party in  the April 9 National Assembly election.

 Although the party lost the seat to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the plaintiff insisted that notwithstanding he wants justice to be done against the defendants who illegally substituted his name without his knowledge.

He also joined Mr. Oladipupo Adebutu, the beneficiary of his illegal substitution as a defendant in the suit. 

The police had earlier before the NASS election dragged the Chairman of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Chief  Dayo Soremi and four others before an Abuja Magistrate’s court over alleged substitution of the House of Representative candidate, representing Remo Federal Constituency, Dave Salako. 

They were accused of allegedly substituting Salako’s name despite scoring the highest number of votes in the primary elections.

The accused persons were alleged to have connived with the Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC,to substitute his name with that of Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu.

The court later admitted the accused persons to bail and fixed tody, Friday 6 May for trial. 

Salako had filed a fresh suit at the Federal High court challenging the actions of both INEC and PDP.

The case comes up for further hearing on 19 May.
