The police at Pedro Station, Shomolu division, Lagos have arrested six suspected gamblers whose ages ranged from 20 to 26 years and charged them before the Shomolu Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Ibrahim Adekunle, Ibrahm Awoneye, Owolabi Elijah, Saheed Kamorudeen, Akeem Araba and Adujobi Oluwasegun were arrested at 18, Onajimi Street, Shomolu.
They were arraigned on a three-count charge of gambling and disturbing public peace, offences punishable under Sections 516, 236 (2), 69 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.38, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeri, 2004.
Three accused were also arrested at Fetuga Street, Ladilak, Somolu and arraigned before the court. They are Chinedu Emezerike, Seyi Ogunteluso and Solomon Akpan who claimed to be commercial motorcyclists.
They were docked on a two-count charge of felony and unlawful assembly, offences punishable under Sections 516, 250 (b) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety and the case was adjourned.
The accused could not meet the conditions attached to the bail and were remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons.
