INEC Presents Certificate Of Returns To Elected Legislators

It was a day of joy and merrymaking for victorious lawmakers in Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State as they besieged the INEC office in Benin City to receive their certificates of return.

Their supporters accompanied them with drumming along with cultural troupes that entertained the audience and wellwishers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission yesterday presented certificates of return to newly elected National and state House of Assembly members under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo state.

Making the presentation at the commission’s headquarters in Benin, the state capital, INEC National Commissioner in charge of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states, Mr. Ishmael Igbani, commended the ACN and PDP legislators in the state for exhibiting the spirit of sportsmanship during the general elections.

He stated that INEC lived up to the expectation of millions ofNigerian electorate that voted for various elected members of their choice in line with the commission’s promise to ensure a free, fair and credible exercise.

He said “INEC promised to be neutral, impartial and transparent in all the elections and I thank all those who made the success possible, including youth corps members, security agencies and the voters, who defended their votes.”

Igbani told the lawmakers that the certificates represented the people’s mandate for them to offer quality leadership and provide the needed dividends of democracy.

According to him, “your certificates are the key to your offices, without which you cannot serve.”

Among those issued with the certificates of return include the senator-elect for Edo North Dr. Domingo Obende, PDP Senator Odion Ugbesia for Edo Central Senatorial District and ACN Senator-elect for Edo South, Ehigie Uzamere.

Others are seven ACN House of Representatives members, two PDP members also of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Also presented the certificates were the 19 ACN and five PDP elected members of the state house of assembly.
