LASTMA Officials Batter Courier
For daring to identify the man who extorted four thousand naira from him, staff of a courier company, Fast Link, based in Ikeja, Lagos, Oladele Adigun, 30 has been battered by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
Trouble started for Oladele yesterday at Pen Cinema, Agege on his way to the office when he saw a fake LASTMA official, identified as Alfa who had earlier extorted him of four thousand naira.
Narrating the incident to P.M.NEWS, he stated: “The fake LASTMA official was harassing another motorcyclist when I accosted him and demanded to see his identity card to ascertain if he was a LASTMA official or not because someone told me after my earlier experience that he doesn’t work for LASTMA.
“Alfa ran across the road and called a man in a mufti who walked up to me and demanded to know my identity. I identified myself as a staff of a courier company and before I could explain further, the man removed my cap and hit me in the mouth. He was joined by others and they overpowered me and took me to their Alausa office in a tricycle where others joined in beating me.
“After beating me, they asked me to write a statement and I did. Later, they said I should go but I refused. I insisted on them telling me my offence. They refused to answer me and left me in pains.
â€I am here to tell Lagosians my experience and for the police to act on this injustice,†he stated. Efforts to get the reaction of LASTMA spokesperson on the matter proved abortive as she refused to pick our calls.
