23-Year Old Marriage Dissolved

The 23-year old marriage between Mr. Shuaibu Ajape and Madam Iyabode Ajape has been dissolved by an Agege, Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria over irreconciliable differences.

Madam Iyabode had in her petition before the court prayed the court to dissolve the marriage because of lack of love and because the respondent was always disgracing her and calling her a witch.

“He embarrasses me in public and was always accusing me of killing our first born who fell sick while in school at the University of Lagos, Akoka and died in the hospital,” she stated in her petition.

In his ruling, the court president, Mr. E.B. Shokunle said: “They have been living together for the past 23 years but the last three years proved difficult for the petitioner.

“By the law of Lagos State, 1994 Order 7, Rule 3, Cap. 19, they shall cease to be referred to as husband and wife and shall maintain absolute peace wherever and whenever they meet.

“The remaining four children will remain with the defendant and the plaintiff shall remove her belongings from the defendant’s house.

“Judgment is obtainable while appeal is allowed within 30 days of this ruling.“
