Why I Want To Commit Suicide

Ademola Akeredolu, former drug addict, cultist and occultist, who said he was recently arrested by Christ during a church service on Sunday in Lagos, may be planning to commit suicide. The 57-year-old man spoke with EMMANUEL UDOM on a past that has brought him to his present condition.

You recently dumped the lucrative criminal illicit drug business for Christ, during a church service in Lagos. How is your life now as a born-again Christian?

Yes, on March 10, 2011, I became a born-again Christian during a church service of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Abule Egba branch in Lagos. But I must be very honest with you, nothing has really changed for the better, as far as my situation is concerned.

What do you mean?

Well, Pastor Sola Oweye, Area Pastor of RCCG, Restoration Family at 39, Ekoro Road, Ebule Egba, Lagos told me when I visited the church that for me to be assisted, the pre-condition is to be born-again. He added that after giving my life to Christ, members of the church will assist me with accommodation, rehabilitation and a job, and this would clear the adverse effects I have been experiencing since I stopped smoking marijuana and sniffing cocaine. You see, I sleep outside a compound at 13, Bolatito Street by Pipeline Road, Abule Egba and earn N1,500 every month, from teaching three primary school pupils

How did you get into illicit drug business?

I was born on July 15, 1954 in Agege, Lagos to wealthy parents who hailed from Owo, Ondo State. As the only male in a family of nine children, I was pampered and spoilt with gifts and attention by my parents. My parents allowed me to mix with Hausa who were selling Indian hemp and other illicit drugs along the Agege railway line. I ended up smoking my first marijuana at a very young age while I was a student at Christ Apostolic Primary School. Agege. By the time I entered African Church Grammar School, Ifako, Agege in 1970, I had already graduated from smoking marijuana to snuffing cocain.

In August 1977, when I got admission to the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, to read English at degree level, I was making a lot of money selling Indian hemp, cocaine and other illicit drugs to students and lecturers on campus. Along the line, I dabbled into the occult and ended up impregnating nine ladies and had children without actually marrying any of them. NDLEA arrested and detained me a couple of times. I was eventually expelled from OAU in my fourth year for participating in a protest in which three students were killed by the police and about 50 others injured.

Has the church assisted you claim to have become a born-again?

No, regrettably they have stopped assisting me with the small stipend they used to give me every Sunday, since March this year. Maybe after telling them the story of my life, they contacted Obafemi Awolowo University, where the authorities probably told them horrible things about me while I was a student. My brother, I am presently living in hell on earth. Though, I have stopped using or selling drugs, my present condition sometimes tempts me to forget about this born-again thing and go back to the drug world or even commit suicide and put an end to this miserable life of mine once and for all.

But, do you think this is the best option?

No, but in my present situation, only divine intervention will make me change my mind.
