Four men who allegedly stole 1,500 litres of kerosene (NPK) product, valued at N1.5 million have been arraigned before a Cele Magistrateâ€™s Court, Isolo, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
The accused, Samuel Effiong, 25, Suleiman Zibor, 26, Danladi Kano, 30 and Ogba Alfred, 26 were alleged to have conspired to commit felony, to wit, stealing, offences the prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Efegheremoni said were punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2004.
Count One of the three-count charge reads: “That you, Samuel Effiong and others at large on 3 January, 2011 at Ago-Okota in the Mushin Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony, to wit, stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.”
The last count reads: “That you, Danladi Kano and Ogba Alfred did receive 1,500 litres of kerosene knowing same to have been stolen and thereby committed an offence punishable under Sections 427, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Awogboro granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State government and present a proof of means of livelihood.
The case has been adjourned till 2 June, 2011.
