Power Outage Disrupts Post Match Conference

Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, struck again as the light went off during the post match conference of the Ghana and Togo match on Tuesday.

Lights went off when Ghana coach, David Duncan, was reacting to questions from Nigerian and foreign journalists covering the regional competition at the media centre of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

This disrupted the conference and the Local Organising Committee, LOC, had to make an emergency arrangement to continue the conference inside the mainbowl of the stadium.

While some foreign journalists who are in Nigeria to cover the tournament expressed their displeasure over the power failure and the shifting of the conference to another place, most of the local sports journalists were not surprised at the development. They saw it as a usual occurence in the Nigerian society.

Some of them who spoke with P.M.Sports blamed the LOC for relying on PHCN for power supply during such an international championship.

“This is a national embarrssement. The LOC should not have relied on PHCN for power supply at all. We all know that PHCN has not been living up to expectation when it comes to power supply,” said a local journalist.
