A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, this morning struck out N1 billion suit instituted by the a celebrity, Angela Onyeador against the Nigerian Senate and the National Deposit Insurance (NDIC) for allegedly defaming her.

The Lagos socialite and her company, Enita Associates Ltd dragged the defendants before a Federal High Court challenging the inclusion of her name on the list of debtors of the failed banks.

Onyeador, who was claiming N1.5 billion against the defendants as exemplary and aggravated damages, contended that she had paid her debt and that the Senate made a serious blunder by including her name on the names of debtors of the failed bank.

Also joined in the suit as defendants were Senate President, David Mark and the Chairman of Senate Committee on Banking and Other Financial Institutions.

In his judgement, this morning Justice Idris Mohammed struck out the suit on the ground there was a fundamental error in the suit as there is a provision of law that insists that supporting affidavit should be filed along with the originating summons on an application of this nature.

Consequently, N50,000 cost was awarded against Onyeador.
