Pastor’s Son Kills Mother
A pastor’s son in Benin, the Edo State capital, has killed his aged mother inside a church.
It was learnt that the suspected son, Ovie Sunday, killed his aged mother popularly known as Mama Ovie inside the Glory Bible Church located at 21, Isiuwa Street, Uselu area of the state.
According to sources at the scene of the incident, the Pastor of the church, Reverend Daniel Ohen, got to his church only to discover the corpse lying in the church.
He was said to have raised an alarm which attracted residents of the area who helped him apprehend the victim’s son when he attempted to escape.
The pastor thereafter went to the police in the state to report the incident.
Narrating the incident to P. M. NEWS correspondent, Tony Uhwagan, a relation of the deceased, claimed that Ovie, whose father is the local pastor of the church in Ozoro, Delta state, brought the woman from Delta after deceiving her that there was a special prayer session at their church headquarters in Benin.
On getting to the church in Benin, Ovie, who is the youngest among the woman’s six children, was said to have forced his way into the church through one of its windows. He opened the door and took his mother inside.
“When the old woman was fast asleep, he tied her down and while the woman was struggling to free herself, he brought out a machete and killed the woman, who was said to have cried for help,†said the relation who added that the suspect had just been released from the Adesua Police Station GRA, Benin over some criminal acts.
Members of the local vigilante, who said they heard the cry, claimed they mistook it for deliverance service, only to learn very late that it was the cry of a dying woman.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, some members of the church were seen talking about the detention of their pastor, who they claimed the police said can only be released after his bail is perfected.
P.M.NEWS sought the police comment by calling its spokesman in the state, Mr. Peter Ogboi, but calls to his mobile phones were neither picked nor returned.
