‘Rivers Ready For Sports Festival’

After receiving the Festival Torch for the 17th National Sports Festival, tagged Garden City Games, to be hosted by Rivers State, the governor of the state, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that Rivers is ready to host the nation in Port Harcourt.

Gov. Amaechi spoke while inspecting facilities for the games at the newly built Adokiye Amiesimeka Sports Complex at the Greater Port Harcourt City.

He said, now that some of the facilities have been completed, the state is ready to host the festival.

He explained that the major facilities at the games village are virtually ready, expressing disappointment over the stadium complex, which is yet to be completed as planned. But he assured that the state would showcase the kind of stadium and sports complex that are being built, futuristically, for the country to see.

The state government, he said, is working on the venue for the opening and closing ceremony for the games, as well as other venues within Port Harcourt, to host other sporting events during the games.

He reassured that the Garden City Games would be a rich harvest of talents for the country.
