Fans Sad Over Eagles’ Poor Performance

Football fans in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria were not happy with the performance of the Super Eagles in the final of the WAFU Cup.

Some of the fans, who spoke with P.M.Sports after the match said that Eagles’ goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi, gave Togo the victory over Nigeria, while others felt that the performance of Eagles was on the average.

“To me Super Eagles did not deserve to win the encounter. They underrated Togo. I think the Hawks were a better side in this tournament; they played with determination and got good result at the end of the day,” said one of the fans, Akeem Bankole.

Atakora Lalawele opened scoring for Togo in the three minutes of the first half. Guedje Cedril got the second goal to put Nigeria under pressure.

Nigeria reduced the tally when Ibenegbu Bartholomew scored in the 27th minute.

The stadium came alive when Nigeria got a penalty which was converted by Ibenegbu to give the Eagles the much anticipated equaliser.

As Nigerians were celebrating the equaliser, the Togolese who were on the rampage in the final got their winning goal through Lalawele in the 45th minute.

The Eagles woke up to the reality of the task on their hands in the second half, but this could not save them from sinking and eventually they lost the final match to the more determined Hawks of Togo.
