Police Foil Kidnap Bid, Kill 1
The police in Benin City, the Edo state capital, Southsouth Nigeria, have foiled a kidnap attempt and killed one of the suspected kidnappers.
The four-man gang had struck in a commando style at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness opposite Air force Primary School, Uzama street, Oliha Quarters in Benin city during the service around 9.30am.
One of the kidnappers was already seated inside the church while the other three drove straight to the gate of the church and pulled out their guns and ordered every member in the hall to lie flat on the ground.
They proceeded to kidnap a woman and forced her into a waiting Honda INTEC car marked Abuja BP 634 KUJ. They drove off but ran into a police patrol team.
When the police noticed that a woman was struggling inside the vehicle, they intercepted the kidnappers and a gun battle ensued.
The cops shot dead one of the kidnappers while the others escaped.
The kidnapped woman was rescued.
The Edo state Police Command spokesman ASP Peter Ogboi confirmed the incident.
