SIFAX Spends N14bn On Cargo Handlers
SIFAX Group, one of the leading terminal operators at the ports and owner of Ports and Cargo Handling Services Limited (P&CHS), operators of Terminal C at the Tin Can Island Ports, has so far invested the sum of 56million Euro (N14.6billion) on plant and equipment at the terminal.
These equipment, which are state-of-the-art cargo handling gears,include 20 full handlers, six empty handlers and four Liebherr cranes, which have been fully deployed towards effective and efficient terminal operations.
The Managing Director of the Terminal, Mr Abubakar Hadi, dropped the hint during a get together which attended the berthing of a vessel, MSC DIDEM, the 1000th vessel to berth at the terminal since its inception in June, 2006.
The occasionwas witnessed by the top management of the company, including an elated Mr Hadi, who was joined by the top echelon of Mediterranean Shipping Company(MSC) led by Mr Nayah, whose vessel has the singular honour and privilege to make the historic berth.
The vessel made the historic voyage into the terminal with 293 containers which were made up of 132 twenty-footer and 161 fourty-footer containers.
Hadi used the occasion to list some of the challenges facing the operations of the terminal which include the poor state of the access roads and the multiplicity of government agencies at the ports, which he noted were militating against quick and efficient service delivery at the ports.
