MAF Cup Kicks Off June

The 4th edition of Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai Soccer Competition will kick on 25 June at the Oshodi Sports Complex, Lagos State.

Thirty-two teams are expected to take part in the eight-week competition which begins next month.

The youths soccer competition tagged “MAF Cup” is being sponsored by Hon Akinderu-Fatai representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency 1 at the Federal House of Representatives .

The chairman of the Organising Committee, Olumuyiwa Olushina, said activities towards the commencement of the event are ongoing, adding that several teams have picked their forms ahead of the deadline.

Olushina, fondly called Masote, noted that the competition could have started earlier than June, but was postponed due to the just concluded general elections in which the sponsor was re-elected into the National Assembly under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

“We were supposed to have started the competition early this year, but the electioneering processes that lasted for a month caused the postponement of the event till June. With the things being put in place, we will have a good tournament,” Masote said.

He disclosed that the winner will go home with N200,000 while the runner-up and the third position will receive N100,000 and N75,000 each respectively. He added that lots of consolations prizes will be given in various awards categories. He promised that there will be maximum security for participating teams and spectators during the competition.
