ACN Chieftains, Technocrats Scramble For Positions

The scramble for executive and political appointments in the new executive council expected to be named by the re-elected governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, is heating up just as the current administration winds up soon.

Precisely, by Monday, the four years tenure of the outgoing cabinet will terminant with a valedictory session instead of the initial Executive Council Meeting at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja.

The new executive members are expected to be sworn-in sometime early June to allow for the continuation of transformation of the state.

Political Platform reliably gathered that immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Raji Fashola winner of the governorship poll in the state, different political interests started visiting the state House, Marina, his official residence and Bourdillon, Ikoyi, residence of the Action congress of Nigeria, ACN, national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to lobby for position.

As at the last count, not fewer than 123 curricula vitae have been forwarded to the governor for consideration for appointments in the incoming cabinet.

It was further gathered that party chieftains are not left out in the lobby for commissioners and special advisers in an executive council that is expected to be named by the governor after his swearing-in for a second term later in the month.

Referees for the political job seekers are prominent party leaders and decision makers, while others are banking on the endorsement of traditional rulers.

Majority of the lobbyist are party chieftains who lost out at the party primaries, committed party stalwarts and other apolitical people who are experts in their various fields of endeavour.

There is also tension in the current cabinet as most of the members of the State Executive Council want to retain their portfolios in the spirit of continuity.

The cabinent stands dissolved immediately the governor takes the baton on May 29.

Meanwhile, some commissioners who have seen the hand writting on the wall that they may not be retained have started preparing their handover notes. They have also started removing their personal effects from their offices.
