With just a few days to the inauguration of newly-elected political office holders, INEC in Delta has yet to decide on the pending Burutu II state constituency election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that election in the constituency was held twice and declared inconclusive on each occasion, with the last being on May 6.

The INEC spokesman in the state, Mr. Livy Unigwe, told NAN on Thursday that the commission had not come up with anything on the exercise, the only one out of the 29 constituencies in the state.

According to him, INEC headquarters in Abuja is the authority to decide on the election and such decision has to be in collaboration with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state.

“The REC is currently in Abuja and it is when he returns that we will know the decision the headquarters has directed to be taken on the issue,” he said

On the issue of double registration during the voter registration which came to the fore during the April elections, Unigwe said those who contravened the electoral laws would bear the consequence.

He said arrangements had been concluded for the prosecution of minors caught during the elections in the state.

In a recent publication by INEC, Delta was ranked among the first four states with highest number of multiple registration with more than 17,000 cases.
