A clearing and forwarding agent, Mr. Abiodun Jaiyeoba has dragged his wife, Madam Esther Rabiu Ibrahim before the Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, seeking the dissolution of their five-year old marriage.
In his petition before the court, he said there is no more love between them and that she embarrasses him in public.
He disclosed that he refused to attend the naming ceremony of his child because he told her to abort the pregnancy but she refused.
He added that Esther had three children with her former husband before he met her.
“I don’t know what happened between her and her former husband. When we were courting, I told her we should only be boyfriend and girlfriend until she told me that she was pregnant for me.
“I gave her N4,000 everyweek; N2,000 for feeding while the remaining N2,000 is for ante-natal,” he stated.
He also accused her of always embarrassing him in public.
“She came to the mosque to carry my shoes while I was praying,” he added.
In her response, Esther denied the allegations, saying, “when I got pregnant for him, I told him to take me to his parents but he refused. He insisted that I should abort the pregnancy. Later, I got to know that he had three wives and three kids.”
After listening to the estranged couple, the court President, Mr. E.B. Shokunle, adjourned the suit till 31 May, 2011 for judgment.
