A Divorce-seeking mother of four, Mrs. Oluwabukola Moboluwaduro has dragged her husband, Mr. Ibrahim Moboluwaduro before the Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, seeking the dissolution of the marriage due to lack of care.
In her petition, Mrs. Moboluwa accused her husband of not taking care of her and the four children of the marriage. She also accused him of constant beating, adding that there is no more love between them.
Citing an instance when the respondent attacked her, the petitioner stated: “There was a time the UBA sent me a message which I ignored. My husband requested for my phone and insisted that he must read the message but I refused. He started cursing me and when I replied, he punched me all over my body. My children who were watching the scene started crying.â€
In his response, Mr. Moboluwaduro said he was against the divorce and appealed to the court to give him more time to reconcile with his wife.
He attributed the disagreement between him and the petitioner to a communication gap and promised to close it.
On the cause of the present rift, the respondent told the court: “I opened a fish pond and I told my wife to always change the water but she refused. One day, I found a substance which smells like kerosene inside the pond which left the fishes dead. This made me angry.
“I have sent landlords, friends and her mother to beg her to forgive me but she has refused so far.â€
Responding to the plea by the respondent, the petitioner insisted that the marriage must be dissolved “because he doesn’t care for me. Whenever I get pregnant or give birth, he doesn’t give me anything, even money for pampers and baby food.â€
After listening to the parties, the president of the court, Mr. E. B. Shokunle, adjourned the matter till 28 June, 2011 for continuation of trial and advised them to maintain absolute peace.
