Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, Afrobeat music star and son of music legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti says the need to expand has driven him out of the iconic Kalakuta Republic on Gbemisola Street, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
Speaking with Showbiz Trends, Seun said contrary to what people may be insinuating, he decided to leave the house, where his father lived until he died in 1997, because the place had become too small for him as an international star.
According to the split image of the late Afrobeat maestro, with the spate of successes trailing his music career, he needed more space to hone his skill, set up a studio and receive guests that keep coming in droves.
“I can no longer stay there (Kalakuta Republic). The place was no longer convenient for me. I have to expand after going on two successful world tours and a successful first album. These have allowed me to acquire too much stuff and equipment.
“You know, Kalakuta is still Felaâ€
Seun, who is already preparing for another international tour of Europe and America which kicks off in June, has moved into a bigger duplex off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, leaving the Kalakuta Republic at the mercy of hangers-on who squat on the desolate and dilapidated building.
Tongues wagged when it was discovered that Seun has moved out of the house he had lived practically all his life.
