Build Foot Bridge At Ojodu-Berger, Residents Tell Govt

Residents of Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos have appealed to the Federal and Lagos State governments to save them from untimely death by building a foot bridge across the highway.

Some of those that narrated their experience while crossing the highway described the situation as suicidal and want something done fast so as to avert the danger associated with it.

One of the residents, Mr. Bode Iyanda, blamed government for not providing necessary facilities when the road was being constructed, saying it would have aided easy crossing for pedestrians instead of dashing across the road.

“It is callous for government to have constructed a road like this without providing facility for people to cross it as the heavy traffic here makes it impossible for pedestrians to cross the road.

“It is shameful that government is not bothered about this important issue in spite of accidents that often occur.

“Government should, as a matter of urgency and importance, come to our rescue by constructing foot bridges along this road to save the country from losing its productive citizens,” Bode pleaded.

Mrs. Taiwo Jolaoso, another resident, said “crossing this road is very hectic as much time is wasted waiting for traffic to reduce before making any move.

“Government, either state or federal, should provide a way to make crossing the highway more convenient for pedestrians.”

Mr. Bade Alao, in his own contribution, advised government to post some security personnel there, who will be helping the pedestrians to have ease crossing.

“The risk of being killed by hit and run drivers on this road is very high and there is no alternative way of crossing except by dashing across the highway and as such, it will be of great help if government can help us by deploying some traffic police to this area so that any time people want to cross, vehicles could be stopped for them.

“But the best solution is that both the Federal and Lagos State governments should try and build foot bridges across this road,” Alao stated.

It was observed that pedestrians were patiently waiting for traffic to reduce before they speed across to either side of the road when Lagos Bulletin visited the area recently.
