Tennis: 33rd CBN Open Serves Off

The 33rd Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Senior Tennis Open Championship will serve off in Lagos, Nigeria tomorrow.

The annual tennis classic, which will be played at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos will end on Saturday, 4 June.

The tournament will begin with qualifying series for players jostling for places in the Main Draws of both the Men and Women’s Singles, which serves off on Monday, 30 May.

During a press briefing to herald this year’s championship, the Director, Governor’s Department of the CBN, Faruk Garko told sports journalists through the Head of Communications of the apex bank, Isa Mohammed Abdullahi, that the bank will splash the sum of N6.8m prize money on the winners this year. According to him, winner of the Men’s Singles will get N600, 000, while his women’s counterpart will pocket N400, 000.

President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Sani Ndanusa, who spoke though his 1st vice president, Yemi Owoseni, revealed that organisers of the tourney will re-introduce Mixed Doubles as part of innovation to add glamour to the ‘All Nigeria Tennis Championship’.
