Akiolu Caps 11th Suenu Of Lagos

Chief Omogbolahan Nojeemdeen Aremu Durosimi (Topesi 1) has been capped as the 11th Suenu of Lagos by His Royal Majesty, Riliwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu 1, the Oba of Lagos at his Palace in Lagos.

The carnival-like event, which coincided with Akiolu’s eighth year coronation anniversary was witnessed by members of the Lagos State Council of Traditional Chiefs as well as members of Suenu Chieftaincy Family led by Alhaji Ibrahim Ademola Fashola.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, also a member of the family, was also present at the ceremony alongside other important dignitaries including Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson (rtd), former military governor of Lagos State; Chief Folarin Coker, the Baba Eto of Lagos; Chief Molade Okoya Thomas, Asoju Oba of Lagos; Dr. Akinola Ajose Ogunlewe and Senator-elect Bariu Gbenga Ashafa, among others.

First class traditional rulers, foremost among who is the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi II; the Alapa of Apa Kingdom, Oba Adekanmi Ajose Ilufemiloye Possi III; Onibereko of Ibereko Kingdom, Oba Isreal Okoya Okikiola I; Ojora of Ijora, Oba Fatai Aromire and a host of others, were also there.

According to Olaseni Ogungbadero, General Secretary, Suenu Chieftaincy Family, Suenu, as a traditional title, is one of the war chiefs of the Oba of Lagos, while other members include Oshodi Tapa, Bajulaye, Saba, Oluwo Jakande, Obashua, Faji, Shaasi, Sasore Abapo, Bajulu, Egbe, Oshodi Buku, Salawe, Kakawa, Etti, Ayemosan, Oserun, Okolo, Iposu and Erelu.

Prince Orisadaran from Apa Kingdom, he stated further, was the progenitor of the Suenu Chieftaincy Family and the first Suenu of Lagos in 1704.
