Robbers Raid Petrol Station, Kill Policeman
A yet to be identified policeman was this morning gunned down by a gang of armed robbers who attacked a filling station located in Ntabo, Ijoko, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.
The armed robbers attacked Nipco Filling Station as early as 5.55 a.m and were said to have carted away money realised from yesterday’s sales.
Sources close to the management of the filling station told P.M.NEWS that the policeman who was killed in the attack was the guard at the station.
According to eye an witness, the robbers arrived at the filling station pretending to be customers who wanted to purchase fuel, “but they suddenly opened fire, causing panic among residents of the area, who had thought the gun shots were fired by groups that usually cause mayhem in the area.
“We soon realised that they were robbers when information started going round that the filling station was being attacked,†said the eye witness who said she and other people who left home early for work ran for their lives to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
A staff of the filling station, who spoke with P.M.NEWS on the condition of anonymity, said the robbery attack lasted for about 30 minutes.
The actual amount carted away by the robbers was not known as at the time of filing this report, but P.M.NEWS learnt that the corpse of the murdered policeman had been taken away from the scene by men of the Ogun State Police Command.
